Two dominant backs in Kameron Coleman and Carson James are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Brewer Bears will venture away from home to square off against the Arlington Heights Yellowjackets at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams are strolling into their contests after big wins in their previous games.
Brewer took a loss when they played away from home two weeks ago, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They took their game with ease, bagging a 34-7 win over Granbury. That looming 34-7 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Bears yet this season.
A big part of Brewer's victory came down to the chemistry between Colton Ryals and his top target Devan Roberts. Ryals threw for 187 yards and one touchdown while completing 83.3% of his passes while Roberts picked up 109 receiving yards and one score.
Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Brewer proved: they limited Granbury to a paltry 2.5 yards per carry. The Bears didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 6.6.
Meanwhile, Arlington Heights entered their tilt with Paschal on Friday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. They blew past the Panthers, posting a 45-14 win. Given the Yellowjackets' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 188th, while the Panthers are ranked 650th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.
Brewer better keep an eye on Carmelo Carter. He was instrumental in Arlington Heights' win, rushing for 111 yards and one TD on only 12 carries.
Arlington Heights' defense made their presence known, laying out Jashaun Thomas eight times. It was truly a group effort as Carter James, Dino Walker, and Isaiah Schuman picked up two apiece. James has been hot recently, having also posted five or more total tackles the last three times he's played. Caynan James was another major factor on D, picking up a sack and making nine total tackles (3.0 for loss).
Brewer's victory bumped their record up to 7-3. As for Arlington Heights, their win bumped their record up to 9-1.
Everything came up roses for Brewer against Arlington Heights when the teams last played back in November of 2021, as the squad secured a 39-12 victory. Will the Bears repeat their success, or do the Yellowjackets have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
