Basketball Recap: Westhope/Newburg Sets Scoring Season-High Against North Prairie Co-Op [Rolla/Rolette]

Westhope/Newburg scored the most points they've had this season on Monday, but it wasn't enough. They fell to the North Prairie co-op [Rolla/Rolette] Cougars 64-60. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Thursday (58), the Sioux still had to take the loss.

Westhope/Newburg lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Macy Bryans, who went 7 for 17 on her way to 19 points in addition to seven rebounds and three steals. Bryans is trending in the right direction considering she's improved her point production for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Laken Lee, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 14 boards.

Even though they lost, Westhope/Newburg smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their offensive board total in four consecutive matches.

Westhope/Newburg's record now sits at 0-6. As for North Prairie co-op [Rolla/Rolette], their win bumped their record up to 2-5.

Westhope/Newburg will venture away from home to take on Surrey at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday. Surrey knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past three contests -- so hopefully Westhope/Newburg likes a good challenge. As for North Prairie co-op [Rolla/Rolette], they will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Drayton/Valley-Edinburg at 7:00 p.m. on February 3, 2025.
