Basketball Recap: Lyons Lions vs. Loveland Classical Lions
On Tuesday, the Lyons Lions slipped by the Loveland Classical Lions 39-38. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Lyons.
Lyons got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Ava Vasquez out in front who earned seven points plus 20 rebounds. The dominant performance also gave Vasquez a new career-high in offensive rebounds (ten). Another player making a difference was Leora Hagan, who scored ten points in addition to five steals.
Lyons was working as a unit and finished the game with 12 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Loveland Classical only posted six.
Loveland Classical lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Keira Doan, who had nine points in addition to eight rebounds and two steals. Doan is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last four games she's played dating back to last season. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaelyn Doan, who posted 14 points in addition to two steals.
Lyons' win was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 2-0.
Lyons will take on Byers at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Loveland Classical, they will be defending their home-court for the first time this season they go up against STEM School Highlands Ranch at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday.
