Softball Recap: Jefferson Makes It Six in a Row on the Road

Jefferson had already won two in a row and they went ahead and made it three on Monday. They blew past the Delavan-Darien Comets 13-2. The result was nothing new for the Eagles, who have now won ten games by seven runs or more so far this season.

Aeryn Messmann made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 16 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-5 with four RBI, two doubles, and one run. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Hildie Dempsey was a standout: she went 4-for-5 with four runs, three doubles, and one RBI. She continues to improve, besting her previous run total in each of the last three games she's played. Bre Mengel was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double.

Jefferson kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive contests.

Jefferson's win was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 17-3. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.8 runs over those games. As for Delavan-Darien, they are on a 14-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-16.

Looking ahead, Jefferson will venture away from home to take on Whitewater at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Eagles' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Whippets have averaged an impressive 6.2 runs per game this season. As for Delavan-Darien, they will face off against Badger at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
