Softball Game Preview: Porter Ridge Pirates vs. Hough Huskies

The Porter Ridge Pirates will head out to face off against the Hough Huskies at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

Porter Ridge is leaving town to face Hough after disappointing their home crowd in their season opener. Porter Ridge took an 8-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of Charlotte Latin on Tuesday.

Porter Ridge saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Hayden Stamey, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.

Meanwhile, Hough never let their opponents score on Tuesday. Everything went their way against Cox Mill as Hough made off with an 11-0 victory.

Payton Elwell made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Elwell was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with four RBI and one double. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Olivia Bechtel was excellent, scoring two runs while going 1-for-1. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in runs. Another player making a difference was Seanna Shivers, who scored two runs while going 1-for-2.

Porter Ridge beat Hough 5-0 in their previous meeting back in February of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for Porter Ridge since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
