Mountain Ridge and Riverton are an even 3-3 against one another since February of 2022, but not for long. The Mountain Ridge Sentinels will square off against the Riverton Silverwolves at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Mountain Ridge knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past four matchups -- so hopefully Riverton likes a good challenge.
Mountain Ridge is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Utah's top teams: Corner Canyon, who was ranked 17th at the time (Mountain Ridge was ranked 22nd). Mountain Ridge came out on top against Corner Canyon by a score of 56-46 on Tuesday.

Jessica Maynard was her usual excellent self, almost dropping a double-double on 16 points and nine rebounds. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 2.2 steals per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Cailin Kehl, who went 6 for 13 on her way to 13 points in addition to six boards and five steals.
Riverton has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They took a blow against Copper Hills on Tuesday, falling 67-33. The Silverwolves were down 51-26 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.
Mountain Ridge will have to contain Faythe Stauffer as she made an impact in Riverton's last game. She went 6 of 12 en route to 18 points. Another player making a difference was Maggie Hamblin, who posted three points.
Riverton's defeat dropped their record down to 9-5. As for Mountain Ridge, their win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-5.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Mountain Ridge has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 23.9 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Riverton struggles in that department as they've been averaging 29.9 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Mountain Ridge didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Riverton in their previous matchup back in February of 2024, but they still walked away with a 57-53 victory. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Stauffer, who went 11 for 17 on her way to 33 points and five rebounds. Now that she's got a second chance to win this matchup, will Mountain Ridge still be able to contain Stauffer? There's only one way to find out.
