Basketball Game Preview: River Valley Raiders vs. South Gallia Rebels

The River Valley Raiders will take on the South Gallia Rebels at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. River Valley has now lost 11 straight, leaving the team hunting for their first win since December 3.

River Valley fought the good fight in their overtime contest against Alexander on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell to the Spartans 57-53. While the Raiders didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Spartans 14-9 in the first quarter.

River Valley's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Braden Bennett, who went 7 of 17 on his way to 16 points along with eight boards and seven steals, and Landon Burns, who went 7 for 13 en route to 16 points and seven rebounds. With that strong performance, Bennett is now averaging an impressive 2.1 steals per game. Another player making a difference was Gary Truance, who posted seven points and six boards.

Meanwhile, South Gallia ended up a good deal behind Oak Hill on Friday and lost 54-36. While losing is never fun, the Rebels can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 698th, while the Oaks are ranked 343rd).

South Gallia's defeat dropped their record down to 2-8. As for River Valley, their loss dropped their record down to 1-12.
