Basketball Game Preview: Fairfield Eagles vs. Westwood Panthers

The Fairfield Eagles are taking a road trip to challenge the Westwood Panthers at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

Last Tuesday, Fairfield ended up a good deal behind Mexia and lost 70-53. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 853rd, while the Black Cats are ranked 369th).

Meanwhile, Westwood entered their tilt with Groesbeck on Friday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. They blew past the Goats 83-16. The Panthers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won nine matches by 20 points or more this season.

Fairfield better keep an eye on Kavian Bryant. He was instrumental in Westwood's win, going 11 of 20 en route to 30 points and four steals. That makes it four consecutive games in which Bryant has scored at least a third of Westwood's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Chris Carter, who went 6 for 9 on his way to 17 points and six assists.

Westwood pushed their record up to 18-7 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 73.3 points per game. As for Fairfield, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-12.

Fairfield lost to Westwood on the road by a decisive 81-66 margin when the teams last played back in January. Can Fairfield avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
