Soccer Game Preview: Cocoa Beach vs. Lake Wales

The Cocoa Beach Minutemen and the Lake Wales Highlanders will compete for holiday cheer at 8:00 p.m. on Friday.

Cocoa Beach had been on a three-game streak of scoring at least four goals, but Holy Trinity Episcopal Academy put an end to it on Monday. Cocoa Beach took a 2-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of Holy Trinity Episcopal Academy. The Minutemen's loss signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Lake Wales). They never let Discovery onto the board and left with a 6-0 win on Tuesday. Given the Highlanders' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida soccer rankings (they are ranked 208th, while the Spartans are ranked 475th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Lake Wales has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a massive bump to their 5-5-1 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 14 goals over those four contests. As for Cocoa Beach, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-2-1.
