Baseball Recap: Rubidoux Comes Up Short

Rubidoux had lost seven straight on the road, but on Monday they dropped down to 8-14 to make it eight. They came up short against the Jurupa Valley Jaguars, falling 11-0. Considering the last time the Falcons couldn't score was back in March, the team can't take the result too hard.

As for Jurupa Valley, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 12-13. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games.

For Jurupa Valley's part, Jerry Arevalo made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out seven over 4.2 innings pitched. Arevalo also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Jurupa Valley is 4-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 8-12 otherwise. Arevalo was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Jurupa Valley got a big performance out of Iziahah Vargas, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI and one double. Those three RBI gave Vargas a new career-high. Christian Del Rio was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

While Rubidoux had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 3:15 p.m. on Wednesday.
