Baseball Recap: Mishawaka Marian Takes a Loss

Mishawaka Marian made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Penn, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Knights fell just short of the Kingsmen by a score of 3-1 on Wednesday. The Knights' defeat continues a trend for the squad, making it three in a row.

Cade Briones spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on six hits.

On the hitting side, Mishawaka Marian saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Evan Maloney, who went 1-for-3 with one run.

Mishawaka Marian now has a losing record of 3-4. As for Penn, their win was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 10-1.

When Mishawaka Marian and Penn next hit the field, they'll be up against teams who recently just can't seem to lose. The Knights will try to stop South Bend Saint Joseph's eight-game winning streak when they meet at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Penn will square off against Lake Central and their ten-game winning streak at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Kingsmen 2.4, the Indians 1.1) so any runs scored will be well earned.
