Softball Game Preview: Plainfield South Cougars vs. Morris Redskins

The Plainfield South Cougars will square off against the Morris Redskins at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Plainfield South is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They put the hurt on Joliet Central with a sharp 19-6 victory on Wednesday. The win was some much needed relief for the Cougars as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Morris, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Monday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Sycamore last Wednesday, sneaking past 3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Redskins have posted since March 22nd.

Mylie Hughes spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on six hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Addy Hackett, who went 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI. That home run was her first of the season.

Morris pushed their record up to 20-9 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Plainfield South, their win bumped their record up to 17-14.
