Football Game Preview: Amherst County Lancers vs. Heritage Pioneers

Amherst County is 2-8 against Heritage since October of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Lancers will look to defend their home field against the Pioneers at 7:00 p.m. Amherst County has given up an average of 30.2 points per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Amherst County came into their game on Friday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They had to suffer through a 41-13 loss at the hands of Jefferson Forest. While losing is never fun, the Lancers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia football rankings (they are ranked 115th, while the Cavaliers are ranked 30th).

Although Amherst County took the loss, they still got scores from Jamerson Daniel and Dj Clark.

Meanwhile, Heritage came tearing into Friday's matchup with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 33.8 points), and they left with even more momentum. They breezed past the Bees to the tune of 32-0. The Pioneers pushed the score to 26-0 by the end of the third, a deficit the Bees had little chance of recovering from.

Heritage's win bumped their record up to 5-1. As for Amherst County, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-4.

Amherst County couldn't quite get it done against Heritage in their previous meeting back in October of 2024 as they fell 31-24. Can the Lancers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
