Basketball Recap: Trashonn Collins' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Cottondale over Marianna

After flying high against Vernon last Tuesday, Cottondale came back down to earth. The Cottondale Hornets came up short against the Marianna Bulldogs on Thursday, falling 89-65. While losing is never fun, the Hornets can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 408th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 90th).

Several Hornets players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Trashonn Collins, who dropped a double-double on 24 points and 11 rebounds. The matchup was Collins' third in a row with at least ten points. Cameron Odom was another key player, going 5 of 8 en route to 14 points along with seven boards and five assists.

Marianna had a senior duo take command as Nykavian Bradley went 12 for 17 on his way to 29 points and seven rebounds and Rj Mayes went 9 of 21 en route to 27 points in addition to seven assists and three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Bradley has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Mason Mobley, who posted ten points and five steals.

Cottondale's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 12-9. As for Marianna, the win was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 19-3.

Cottondale will take on Malone at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. One thing working in Cottondale's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last three games. Marianna has already played their next contest, a 76-70 defeat against Maclay on the 1st.
