Preview: Valley Heights Mustangs vs. Wabaunsee Chargers

Valley Heights has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will face off against The Wabaunsee Chargers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Valley Heights has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 244 points over their last five games.

Last Friday, Valley Heights was able to grind out a solid win over Marysville, taking the game 38-30. 38 seems to be a good number for Valley Heights as the squad scooped up a victory with the same number of points in their previous game.

Valley Heights' win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Kaison Bigham, who rushed for 102 yards and a touchdown on only 13 carries. Valley Heights also got a significant boost from Carson Spoonts, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 85 yards.

Meanwhile, everything went Wabaunsee's way against Sacred Heart on Friday as Wabaunsee made off with a 30-6 victory. The contest was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point Wabaunsee had established a 22 point advantage.

Wabaunsee's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Wyatt Wurtz, who rushed for 112 yards on only 14 carries. The team also got some help courtesy of Zach Frank, who rushed for 50 yards and three touchdowns.

Wabaunsee's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB four times. Leading the way was Jude Meseke and his two sacks.

Their wins bumped Valley Heights to 5-1 and Wabaunsee to 4-2.

Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. Valley Heights has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 264.3 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Wabaunsee struggles in that department as they've been averaging 227.5 per game. It's looking like Friday's contest might have some serious battles in the trenches.

Valley Heights was taken down by Wabaunsee 56-8 when the teams last played back in October of 2022. Can Valley Heights avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
