Football Recap: Cardinal Gibbons Comes Up Short at Home Against Archbishop Mccarthy + How To Watch

Cardinal Gibbons unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They fell 42-35 to the Archbishop McCarthy Mavericks on Thursday. The match was a 14-14 toss-up at halftime, but the Chiefs couldn't quite close it out.

Cardinal Gibbons lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Jayden Torres, who threw for 269 yards and four touchdowns, and also rushed for 62 yards on only seven carries. Cardinal Gibbons' leading receiver Gary Hadley Jr. was Torres' top target yet again, picking up 161 receiving yards and a pair of TDs.

Damien Grant was a one-man wrecking crew For Archbishop McCarthy. as he rushed for 260 yards and two scores while picking up 15.3 yards per carry. Those 260 rushing yards gave Grant a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Robert Kerns, who threw for 206 yards and four touchdowns on only 15 passes.

Coming up, Cardinal Gibbons will hit the road for the first time this season to take on South Broward at 7:00 p.m. on the 29th. As for Archbishop McCarthy, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Community School of Naples at 7:00 p.m. on the 29th.
