Baseball Recap: Layton Triumphs

Layton won the last time they faced Farmington and things went their way on Wednesday too. The Lancers walked away with a 7-3 victory over the Phoenix. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Lancers.

Nik Bielaczyc was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Layton is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 7-10 otherwise. Bielaczyc was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Bielaczyc wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Fish Manning, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Manning is becoming a predictor of Layton's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 6-1 (and 3-10 when he doesn't). Another was Will Hoffman, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run.

Layton's win bumped their record up to 9-11. As for Farmington, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-16 record this season.

Layton will have a chance to go back-to-back against Farmington: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 3:30 p.m. on Friday.
