Basketball Recap: Christian Torres' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Killian over Edison

If Killian was feeling good fresh off their 61-39 takedown of Greater Miami Academy last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Killian Cougars fell just short of the Edison Red Raiders by a score of 61-58 on Tuesday. The Cougars were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Red Raiders earlier this season, when they won 66-48.

Killian's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Christian Torres, who posted 25 points and six boards. The game was Torres' fifth in a row with at least ten points. Derico Taylor was another key player, going 6 of 13 en route to 13 points and six rebounds.

Edison was led to victory by Jean Viterlens Joseph and Steven Juarez. Joseph almost dropped a double-double on ten points and nine boards, while Juarez went 6 for 13 on his way to 16 points. Joseph has been hot recently, having also posted two or more blocks the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Issaiah Nonomme, who went 5 of 10 en route to 10 points and three steals.

Killian has traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-8 record this season. As for Edison, their win ended a 13-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-8.

A feisty cat fight is on tap when the Killian Cougars duke it out with the Mater Academy Charter Lions at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Killian knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past four contests -- so hopefully Mater Academy Charter likes a good challenge. As for Edison, they will challenge Sunset at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.
