Basketball Recap: Douglas Byrd Takes a Loss

Douglas Byrd was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They took a 73-56 bruising from the Terry Sanford Bulldogs. The Eagles lost against the Bulldogs in their previous head to head back in December of 2022, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 72-28 score last time.

Despite the loss, Douglas Byrd still got an impressive performance from Geomari Young, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 12 boards. Another player making a difference was Anthony Whitehead, who posted ten points.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Terry Sanford to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jamaal Miller, who went 6 of 11 on his way to 14 points in addition to five boards and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Mason Walker, who shot 5-for-8 from long range and dropped a double-double on 17 points and ten rebounds.

Douglas Byrd's loss dropped their record down to 4-4. As for Terry Sanford, the win also got them back to even at 4-4.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Douglas Byrd will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on South View at 7:30 p.m. on January 3, 2025. One thing working in South View's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last six games. Terry Sanford will also get a bit of a break before their next match: they'll face off against Harnett Central at 7:30 p.m. on January 3, 2025. Harnett Central is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 61 points per game this season.
