Softball Recap: San Marcos Has No Trouble Against Buena

San Marcos barely beat Buena the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Royals were the clear victors by a 10-4 margin over the Bulldogs on Friday. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 6-4 on Tuesday.

Lucia Dessert spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and three unearned) runs on three hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Solana Sandoval, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and two doubles. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in February. Jessica Vega was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.

San Marcos was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .448. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

San Marcos' victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-13. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Buena, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-16.

San Marcos does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Buena, they will face off against Newbury Park at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. The Bulldogs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Panthers have averaged an impressive 7.7 runs per game this season.
