Softball Recap: Five Straight Road Wins for Edinburg North

Edinburg North never let their opponents score on Tuesday. They put the hurt on the Port Isabel Tarpons with a sharp 13-0 win. Considering the Cougars have won ten matches by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Destany Bermudez made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out nine over five innings pitched. What's more, she gave up only zero hits, the fewest she's had over her last 12 contests. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

In other batting news, Caylee Ramirez and Natalie Diaz did most of the damage at the plate: Ramirez went 2-for-3 with four RBI, one triple, and one run, while Diaz scored three runs while going 3-for-3. Those four RBI gave Ramirez a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kyla Rodriguez, who scored three runs while going 2-for-3.

Edinburg North pushed their record up to 17-5-1 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games. As for Port Isabel, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-7.

Coming up, a feisty cat fight will be fought as Edinburg North Cougars duke it out with La Villa Cardinals at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. La Villa will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something Edinburg North surely won't give up without a fight. As for Port Isabel, they will square off against Valley View at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
