Preview: Riverview Sharks vs. Sumner Stingrays

Riverview is 0-3 against Sumner since February of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. Both teams will face off at 6:30 p.m. on December 15th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Riverview will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings (they are ranked 692nd, while Sumner is ranked 335th).

Riverview's eight-game losing streak dating back to last season came to an end on Wednesday. They took down Strawberry Crest 68-53. Riverview's offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Meanwhile, Sumner struggled with assists on Tuesday (Plant City had ten more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Sumner fell 57-47 to Plant City.

The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Sean Chaplin, who scored 11 points along with three steals. Those 11 points set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of Jacob Douglas, who scored 13 points.

Riverview's win ended a six-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 1-7. As for Sumner, their loss dropped their record down to 4-3.

Riverview was taken down by Sumner 63-21 when the teams last played back in December of 2022. Thankfully for Riverview, Josiah Harding (who scored 21 points along with four steals) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
