Volleyball Recap: Broomfield Eagles vs. Frederick Golden Eagles
It was a Battle of the Birds when Broomfield took on Frederick on Thursday. The Eagles came out on top against the Golden Eagles by a score of 3-1. The Eagles have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Golden Eagles, too.
The final score came out to 25-19, 15-25, 25-16, 26-24.
Kendra Runyon paced Broomfield's offense, picking up 12 kills. Runyon got some help from Brooklyn Kessler and her 21 assists. Addie Lombardo controlled things from the service line, finishing with three aces.
Frederick's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Lily Pagel, who had 13 digs and one assist, and Ava Reed, who had ten kills, four digs, three aces, and two blocks. Reed has been hot for a while, having posted seven or more kills the last nine times she's played. Kyla Vejrostek also deserves some recognition as she had her first kill of the season.
The win was their first at home , bumping their record up to 3-8. As for Frederick, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-6 record this season.
We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Broomfield will face off against rival Monarch at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Frederick is set to take on their familiar foe Centaurus at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
