Baseball Recap: Raton Snags Seventh Victory in Last Nine Games

Raton came out on top against Estancia on Friday thanks in part to the team's impressive six-run seventh inning. The Tigers were the clear victors by an 11-5 margin over the Bears. The Tigers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matches by six runs or more this season.

Chris Ortega spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned (and two unearned) runs on eight hits.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Braylon Walton, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Santiago Castillo also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Raton is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-10 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.6 runs over those games. As for Estancia, their loss dropped their record down to 6-9.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Raton will challenge rival Clayton at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Estancia is set to take on their familiar foe Santa Rosa at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
