Football Preview: White County Warriors vs. Cookeville Cavaliers

White County is 2-8 against Cookeville since October of 2014 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The White County Warriors are headed away from home for the first time to take on the Cookeville Cavaliers at 7:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both will really light up the scoreboard.

White County's defense heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Warren County 41-0 at home. Given the Warriors' advantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee football rankings (they are ranked 74th, while the Pioneers & Lady Pioneers are ranked 222nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Tripp Pinion was nothing short of spectacular: he rushed for 124 yards and three touchdowns on only five carries, and also threw for 151 yards and three touchdowns on only 13 passes. He got the majority of those yards when he took off on a run and that went for an incredible64 yards.

Meanwhile, everything came up roses for Cookeville at home against PURE Academy on Friday as the squad secured a 48-16 win. The Cavaliers pushed the score to 41-16 by the end of the third, a deficit the had little chance of recovering from.

Blake Owen was a one-man wrecking crew for Cookeville as he rushed for 97 yards and three touchdowns on only nine carries.

Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Cookeville was moving up and down the field and finished the game with 406 total yards. That's the most total yards they've posted since back in September of 2023.

White County's record is now 2-0. As for Cookeville, they pushed their record up to 2-0 with that victory, which was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season.
