Baseball Recap: East Central Victorious

While East Central's win against McGregor wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Eagles sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with an 11-10 victory over the Mercuries on Wednesday. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Eagles as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

Oliver Carlin made a splash no matter where he played. He pitched 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He is becoming a predictor of East Central's success: when he allows at most one hit the team is 2-1 (and 3-8 when he doesn't). Carlin was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with three stolen bases and two runs. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Shaw Youngberg was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April. Cale Jensen was another key player, going 3-for-4 with four RBI and one double.

East Central's victory bumped their record up to 5-9. As for McGregor, they are on a 22-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-8.

Looking ahead, East Central will take on Pine City at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Dragons have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.13 runs per game on average), something the Eagles will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for McGregor, they will head out on the road to take on Deer River at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
