Softball Game Preview: St. Amant Gators vs. New Iberia Yellowjackets

The St. Amant Gators will square off against the New Iberia Yellowjackets at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.

Things were looking good for St. Amant after they put the first points on the board on Tuesday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They took an 8-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of Assumption.

Meanwhile, New Iberia got the win against Mamou on Tuesday by a conclusive 10-3. The Yellowjackets haven't had any issues with the Demons recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.

Madison Taylor and Palyn Freeman did most of the damage at the plate: Taylor scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-2, while Freeman scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-4. Monique Toups was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.

St. Amant's defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 2-2. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 11.2 runs. As for New Iberia, their victory bumped their record up to 2-0.

Everything went St. Amant's way against New Iberia in their previous matchup back in February of 2023, as St. Amant made off with a 14-2 win. Does St. Amant have another victory up their sleeve, or will New Iberia turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
