Baseball Recap: Hancock Takes a Loss

Hancock suffered their closest loss since April 26, 2024 on Saturday. They fell just short of the Long Beach Bearcats by a score of 6-4. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Bearcats this season, with their most recent defeat being a 5-4 loss on Friday.

Jaxson Knight put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.

In other pitching news, Hancock got a good showing from Ayden Howard, who tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Howard also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Hancock is 3-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 4-7 otherwise.

Back at the plate, Brandon Arcement was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one RBI. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Coleton Hopgood also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Even though they lost, Hancock hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Long Beach struck out nine times.

Hancock has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost seven of their last eight contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-8 record this season. Long Beach now has a winning record of 9-8.

Looking ahead, Hancock will square off against Pascagoula at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Long Beach, they will take on George County at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. George County will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something Long Beach surely won't give up without a fight.
