The Cotopaxi Pirates are taking a road trip to face off against the Kiowa Indians at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Cotopaxi is coming into the contest on a five-game losing streak.
Cotopaxi managed to slip by Elbert the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Pirates came up short against the Bulldogs on Monday, falling 19-4.
Cotopaxi saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Justin Dunn, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one double.
Meanwhile, Kiowa got the win against Weldon Valley on Friday by a conclusive 20-4. Considering the Indians have won six matchups by more than six runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Adler Kreig was a standout: he went 2-for-4 with three runs, two RBI, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Caden Watt, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Kiowa always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .600. The last time their OBP was this high was back in April of 2024.
Kiowa is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-7 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.0 runs over those games. As for Cotopaxi, their loss dropped their record down to 1-5.
Saturday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Cotopaxi has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .468. However, it's not like Kiowa struggles in that department as they've averaged .460. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Cotopaxi's way against Kiowa in their previous matchup back in May of 2023, as Cotopaxi made off with an 11-1 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Pirates since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
