Softball Recap: James Island's Luck Changes for the Better on Wednesday

James Island had to endure a five-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Fort Dorchester Patriots on Wednesday, sneaking past 4-3. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 3-1 on April 2nd.

Mary Davis Hancock spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on six hits.

At the plate, James Island's victory was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Harper Billingsley, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run. Those two RBI gave Billingsley a new career-high.

James Island's record is now 6-11. As for Fort Dorchester, their loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 13-4.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. James Island will venture away from home to face off against Timberland at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Fort Dorchester, they will head out to square off against West Ashley at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Patriots 3.6, the Wildcats 2.4) so any runs scored will be well earned.
