Football Recap: Eastern Wayne Skates Past Southwestern Randolph with Ease

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Eastern Wayne walked away with it. They simply couldn't be stopped on Friday as they easily beat the Southwestern Randolph Cougars 49-0. Considering the Warriors have won five matchups by more than 32 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Eastern Wayne got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Izeiah Oates out in front who threw for 184 yards and four touchdowns on only 17 passes, and also rushed for 75 yards on only eight carries. That's the most passing touchdowns Oates has posted since back in November of 2024. Another rusher making a difference was Tykel Battle, who gained 86 total yards and three touchdowns.

Eastern Wayne didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Cincere Battle and Jeremiah Faison. Battle got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Eastern Wayne is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 37.6 points over those games. As for Southwestern Randolph, their loss dropped their record down to 7-4.

Coming up, Eastern Wayne will square off against Reidsville at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Warriors' defense better be ready for this one: the Rams have averaged an impressive 36.8 points per game this season. Southwestern Randolph does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
