Preview: Caprock Academy Eagles vs. De Beque Dragons

After three games on the road, Caprock Academy is heading back home. They will take on the De Beque Dragons at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both teams come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Last Saturday, Caprock Academy earned a 51-39 win over Soroco.

Among those leading the charge was Reed Struwe, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 18 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. Zach Jordan was another key contributor, scoring nine points.

Meanwhile, De Beque came tearing into Friday's contest with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 31 points) and they left with even more momentum. They took their contest at home with ease, bagging a 56-26 victory over Soroco. De Beque has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won three games by 30 points or more this season.

De Beque found their leader in underclassman Burke Largent, who scored 31 points along with five assists and three steals. Largent hasn't dropped below two steals for six straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Scottie Vines, who scored 16 points.

Caprock Academy's win ended a ten-game drought on the road and puts them at 3-8. As for De Beque, their win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-2.

This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Caprock Academy have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 28.4 rebounds per game. However, it's not like De Beque struggles in that department as they've been averaging 32.9 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.

Caprock Academy was dealt a bruising 62-25 defeat at the hands of De Beque when the teams last played back in December of 2023. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Largent, who scored 30 points along with seven steals. Now that Caprock Academy knows the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
