Basketball Recap: Sahuarita Takes a Loss

Sahuarita suffered their biggest loss since November 20, 2024 on Wednesday. They had to suffer through a 94-45 loss at the hands of the Cienega Bobcats. The Mustangs were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 56-36.

Sahuarita's loss came despite strong showings from Zack Myhre and Ruben Villalba. Myhre went 5 of 10 en route to 13 points and six rebounds, while Villalba went 6 of 14 on his way to 15 points.

Even though they lost, Sahuarita was working as a unit and finished the game with 14 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Cienega to victory, but perhaps none more so than Gabe Buksh, who went 7 of 12 on his way to 21 points. Those 21 points gave Buksh a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaden Rodgers, who went 5 of 7 on his way to 10 points along with seven rebounds and six assists.

This is the second loss in a row for Sahuarita and nudges their season record down to 7-10. As for Cienega, with the win, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 9-5.

Sahuarita will challenge Amphitheater at 7:00 p.m. on January 15th. Sahuarita is facing Amphitheater at the right time seeing as Amphitheater is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Cienega, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, an 87-30 victory against Flowing Wells on the 10th.
