The Haverling Rams will square off against the Wayland-Cohocton Eagles at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Haverling will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each game than the last.
Haverling let Edison stack seven runs on them in the fourth inning on Friday but luckily Haverling prevailed anyway. The Rams walked away with a 12-8 victory over the Spartans.
The team relied heavily on Lukas Wightman, who went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Dante Nealey was another key player, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Wayland-Cohocton, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Monday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Geneseo on Tuesday, sneaking past 14-12. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Eagles' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.
Alex Fedorchuk was a standout: he went 1-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Orion Walker, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with three runs.
Haverling's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-2. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Wayland-Cohocton, the win got them back to even at 3-3.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Haverling has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Wayland-Cohocton struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.5 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
