Football Recap: Westlake Academy Picks Up Seventh Consecutive Win

With a playoff win on the line, Westlake Academy rose to the challenge on Friday. They blew past the Fort Worth THESA Riders 66-20. The result was nothing new for the Blacksmiths, who have now won six contests by 45 points or more so far this season.

Special teams played a big role in the game for Westlake Academy, adding 12 points to the final score. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Preston Colby, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.

Despite the loss, Fort Worth THESA still got an impressive performance from Caleb Bright, who picked up 139 receiving yards and a pair of TDs, and also rushed for 45 yards. Bright was no stranger to the big play, lighting up the secondary with a catch that went for 51 yards.

The win was the seventh in a row for Westlake Academy, bringing their record up to 8-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 13.3 points on average over those games. As for Fort Worth THESA, with the defeat, they broke their five-game winning streak and moved their record to 8-3.

Coming up, Westlake Academy will venture away from home to take on Texas Wind at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Westlake Academy will need to watch out since Texas Wind has now posted at least 31 points every time they've taken the field this season. Fort Worth THESA does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
