Basketball Recap: Chaparral Wolverines vs. Highlands Ranch Falcons
Chaparral and Highlands Ranch squared off in some playoff action on Saturday, but Chaparral had to settle for second. They were beaten by the Highlands Ranch Falcons 67-30. While losing is never fun, the Wolverines can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 47th, while the Falcons are ranked fifth).
Several Wolverines players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Maddie Jenkins, who posted 12 points. Lauren Thompson was another key player, putting up six points.
Ezra Simonich continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Highlands Ranch, shooting 75% from the field on her way to 25 points along with six rebounds and five assists. That's the most points Simonich has posted since back in February of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayda Rogers, who went 7-for-10 to rack up 14 points in addition to six boards and three steals.
Chaparral dropped their record down to 14-11 with the defeat, which was their third straight on the road. As for Highlands Ranch, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 21-3.
Chaparral does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Highlands Ranch, they will face off against Cherokee Trail at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Highlands Ranch is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 62.5 points per game this season.
