Preview: Horizon Hawks vs. Poudre Impalas
Horizon has enjoyed the comforts of home their last three games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will take on the Poudre Impalas at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Horizon is not getting complacent considering they own a much higher rank in Colorado (they are ranked seventh, while Poudre is ranked 81st).
Last Friday, Horizon beat Legacy 58-47. Horizon pushed the score to 50-28 by the end of the third, a deficit Legacy cut but never quite recovered from.
It was another big night for Natalie Thornton, who scored 17 points along with two steals. Another player making a difference was Madyn Kassatly, who scored ten points along with seven rebounds.
Meanwhile, Poudre was able to grind out a solid win over Fort Collins on Friday, taking the game 38-25.
Horizon pushed their record up to 18-2 with that victory, which was their 14th straight at home dating back to last season. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.8 points per game. As for Poudre, their victory bumped their record up to 12-9.
Horizon came out on top in a nail-biter against Poudre when the teams last played back in February of 2023, sneaking past 42-39. The rematch might be a little tougher for Horizon since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
