Softball Preview: Savio Eagles vs. Antonian Prep Apaches
Savio is 0-8 against Antonian Prep since April of 2019 but things could change on Friday. The Eagles will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they take on the Apaches at 4:00 p.m.
Savio is headed into their home opener looking to turn things around after starting their season on the road. They lost 15-0 to Antonian Prep last Tuesday. Sadly, the loss continues a streak the team started last season, making it 11 in a row.
For Antonian Prep's part, Victoria Gass and Analisa Guerrero made a splash while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Gass pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Guerrero tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, she posted five strikeouts, the most she's had since back in February. At bat, Gass went a perfect 1-for-1 with two RBI and one double, while Guerrero went a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run and three RBI. In other batting news, Bella Vasquez was a standout: she scored a run and stole two bases while getting on base in both of her plate appearances. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in March of 2024. Khloe Villanueva was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.
Antonian Prep always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .767. They are a perfect 11-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
