Football Recap: Lone Star Extends Winning Streak to 13 + How To Watch

Lone Star had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They took their game on Saturday with ease, bagging a 47-20 win over the West Mesquite Wranglers. The Rangers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 12 contests by 20 points or more this season.

Lone Star found their leader in sophomore Trey Wright, who rushed for 107 yards and one score on only eight carries, and also threw for 196 yards and a pair of TDs on only 15 passes.

Lone Star's run defense was locked in: West Mesquite could only muster 1.9 yards per carry. While two picked up at least ten total tackles, Nico Viveros stood above the rest. He made ten total tackles (3.0 for loss). Lone Star didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 9.2.

Lone Star's defense didn't let Jaylen Dotson, get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for four sacks. Christopher Knauls was especially locked on to West Mesquite's QB and sacked him twice. Another thorn in the Wranglers' side was Viveros, who made ten total tackles (3.0 for loss).

When it comes to explaining why West Mesquite lost, don't look at Dotson. Despite the final result, he threw for 124 yards and three touchdowns.

The victory keeps Lone Star at an undefeated 13-0. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 12.2 points on average this season. As for West Mesquite, with the defeat, they broke their 11-game winning streak and moved their record to 11-2.

Looking ahead, Lone Star will take on Highland Park at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams might be coming in a bit winded given these two teams combined for 872 yards in their previous games. West Mesquite does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
