Recap: Plainfield South Cougars vs. Plainfield East Bengals
Even though the Plainfield East Bengals scored an imposing 56 points on Tuesday, the Plainfield South Cougars still came out on top. Plainfield South managed a 61-56 victory over Plainfield East. That's two games straight that Plainfield South has won by exactly five points.
Plainfield South had a senior duo take command as Destynia Mcgruder dropped a double-double on 18 points and 12 rebounds and Jazlynn Foster dropped a double-double on 13 points and 17 rebounds. The matchup was Foster's third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Demi Page, who scored 15 points along with 7 rebounds.
Plainfield East's lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Lexi Sepulveda, who scored 25 points along with 3 steals. Sepulveda scored a full 44.6% of Plainfield East's points, the ninth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Anna Jenkins, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 14 rebounds.
Even though they lost, Plainfield East were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Plainfield South only pulled down 20.
The victory got Plainfield South back to even at 4-4. As for Plainfield East, they now have a losing record at 4-5.
Plainfield South will head out on the road to face off against Glenbard East at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday. Glenbard East presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Plainfield South in Illinois (Glenbard East is ranked 86th, while Plainfield South is ranked 319th). As for Plainfield East, they will look to defend their home court on Thursday against Joliet West at 6:30 p.m.
