Basketball Recap: St. Brendan Takes a Loss

After flying high against Key West last Tuesday, St. Brendan came back down to earth. The St. Brendan Sabres took a 53-43 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Killian Cougars on Thursday. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Sabres this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 50-43 back in December of 2024.

Despite the loss, St. Brendan still got an impressive performance from Claudia Luis, who posted 20 points. The match was Luis' third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Madison Garcia, who scored six points.

It was another big night for Leiyah Bain, who went 12 for 19 en route to 33 points in addition to five rebounds and three steals for Killian. That makes it three consecutive games in which Bain has scored at least a third of Killian's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Shamaraja Cummings, who put up 12 points and three blocks.

St. Brendan's record now sits at 10-6. As for Killian, their win bumped their record up to 7-2.

St. Brendan didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 53-47 victory against True North Classical Academy on the 25th. Killian has also already played their next game, a 56-20 win against Carol City on the 27th.
