Softball Recap: Sequatchie County Takes a Loss

Sequatchie County dropped their record down to 16-3 on Monday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins on the road. They lost 7-1 to the Whitwell Tigers. The game marked the Indians' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Sequatchie County saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Madison Fine, who went 1-for-2 with one double.

As for Whitwell, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-9 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games.

On Whitwell's side, Jasie Willis was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and not a single walk). Willis has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

In other batting news, Ella Grace Harvey was incredible, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run and two runs. Kiley Billingsley also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Sequatchie County will host Brainerd at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Indians are facing the Panthers at the right time seeing as the Panthers are stuck on a 12-game losing streak. As for Whitwell, they will be playing at home against Signal Mountain at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The timing is sure in the Tigers' favor as the squad sits on three straight wins at home while the Eagles have been banged up by four consecutive losses on the road.
