Basketball Recap: Five Straight Home Wins for Greencastle

There's no place like home for Greencastle, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Tuesday. They blew past the Owen Valley Patriots 61-41 on Saturday. The match was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 36-16.

Sam Gooch continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, going 8-for-11 on his way to 22 points and five boards. He is also on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 60% in the last nine games he's played. Taygan McRoberts was another key player, shooting 56% from the field en route to 15 points.

When it comes to explaining why Owen Valley lost, don't look at Jesse Durnil. Despite the final result, he went 6-for-8 to rack up 17 points. What's more, Durnil also posted an 80% three-point shooting accuracy, which is the highest he's achieved since back in February of 2024. Another player making a difference was Donavin Newby, who posted six points and seven rebounds.

Greencastle's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-6. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.8 points over those games. As for Owen Valley, they have been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last eight contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-19 record this season.

Greencastle has already played their next game, a 66-50 victory against North Montgomery on the 28th. As for Owen Valley, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 53-46 defeat against Shakamak on the 27th.
