Softball Recap: Lancaster Finds Playoff Glory Versus Rush-Henrietta

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Lancaster had no problem doing just that on Wednesday. They put the hurt on the Rush-Henrietta Royal Comets with a sharp 11-2 win. Considering the Legends have won nine contests by more than eight runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Alyssa Brunner was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out nine over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in 12 consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three RBI and one double. Those four hits gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Peytyn Chojnacki, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Leah Dowling, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.

Lancaster was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .484. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Lancaster has been performing well recently as they've won 11 of their last 13 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games. As for Rush-Henrietta, their loss dropped their record down to 14-9.

Coming up, Lancaster will face off against Rome Free Academy at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Legends 2.9, the Black Knights 3.6) so any runs scored will be well earned. Rush-Henrietta does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
