Football Game Preview: McDonogh Eagles vs. St. Mary's Saints

McDonogh is a perfect 3-0 against St. Mary since September of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Eagles will host the Saints. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

McDonogh is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Maryland's top teams: Gilman, who was ranked 24th at the time (McDonogh was ranked fifth). The Eagles blew past the Greyhounds, posting a 31-0 win. The Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four contests by 25 points or more this season.

Meanwhile, St. Mary's came tearing into Friday's matchup with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9.7 points), and they left with even more momentum. They blew past the Admirals 36-13. The Saints not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since August 29th (when they won 48-0).

St. Mary's win came from a few key players McDonogh will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Joseph 'LJ' Evans, who rushed for 84 yards and two touchdowns on only eight carries. That's the most rushing touchdowns he has posted since back in August. The team also got some help courtesy of Jamal Epps, who rushed for 112 yards and one score.

St. Mary's was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 217 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.

McDonogh's record now sits at 7-2. As for St. Mary's, their record is now 7-3.

Everything came up roses for McDonogh against St. Mary's in their previous meeting back in September, as the squad secured a 41-0 victory. Will the Eagles repeat their success, or do the Saints have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
