Baseball Game Preview: Omaha Central Eagles vs. Grand Island Islanders

The Omaha Central Eagles will challenge the Grand Island Islanders at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Omaha Central will bounce into Friday's match after beating Burke, who they had gone 1-8 against in their nine prior meetings. Omaha Central had just enough and edged out Burke 4-3 on Thursday.

Ethan Ferguson was excellent, scoring a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Joe Dougherty, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4.

Omaha Central kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits every time they've taken the field this season.

Meanwhile, Grand Island got themselves on the board against Lincoln Southeast on Thursday, but Lincoln Southeast never followed suit. They blew past the Knights 11-0. The Islanders have beaten the Knights the last four times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Knights has come to flipping the script.

The team relied heavily on Sam Schroeder, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Gage Gannon was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI.

Omaha Central now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Grand Island, their record now sits at 2-0.

Omaha Central might still be hurting after the 12-1 loss they got from Grand Island in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can Omaha Central avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
