Basketball Recap: Aaron Turner Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Pantego Christian

It was a proper cat-fight when Covenant Christian duked it out withPantego Christian on Tuesday. The Covenant Christian Cougars took down the Pantego Christian Panthers 60-43. The Cougars pushed the score to 49-28 by the end of the third, a deficit the Panthers cut but never quite recovered from.

Covenant Christian got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Aaron Turner out in front who went 5 for 11 en route to 15 points and eight rebounds. That's the most boards Turner has posted since back in January of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Lucas Wallace, who almost dropped a double-double on 13 points and nine rebounds.

Covenant Christian smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive boards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Pantego Christian only pulled down ten offensive rebounds.

Pantego Christian lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Aj Brooks, who posted nine points in addition to seven steals and six boards. Brooks has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last 17 times he's played. Another player making a difference was Evan Jackson, who went 6 of 14 on his way to 18 points.

Covenant Christian has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a massive bump to their 8-11 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.6 points per game. As for Pantego Christian, with the defeat, they broke their eight-game winning streak and moved their record to 17-11.

Covenant Christian wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 60-56 victory against Covenant on the 24th. Pantego Christian has also already played their next match, a 55-41 loss against Prince of Peace on the 24th.
