Basketball Game Preview: Pershing County Mustangs vs. West Wendover Wolverines

Pershing County hasn't had much luck against West Wendover recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. Having just played yesterday, the Pershing County Mustangs will head out on the road to face off against the West Wendover Wolverines at 3:30 p.m.

On Friday, Pershing County came up short against Battle Mountain and fell 63-53.

Meanwhile, West Wendover had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 28 points) and they went ahead and made it six on Friday. They took their contest with ease, bagging a 58-17 victory over the Falcons. With the Wolverines ahead 38-3 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.

West Wendover's win came from a few key players Pershing County will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Adryan Carlos, who went 5 of 8 on his way to 10 points and eight boards. Another player making a difference was Estaban Correa, who posted eight points and four steals.

West Wendover pushed their record up to 15-4 with the win, which was their 22nd straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.3 points per game. As for Pershing County, their loss dropped their record down to 8-11.

Pershing County was taken down by West Wendover 79-49 in their previous matchup back in December of 2024. Can Pershing County avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
