Southwestern picks up fifth straight win at home

Recap: Southwestern Rebels vs. Jac-Cen-Del Eagles

The Southwestern Rebels waltzed into their match on Thursday with three straight wins but they left with four. They snuck past Jac-Cen-Del with a 50-46 victory. The victory was all the more spectacular given Southwestern's disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 216th, while Jac-Cen-Del is ranked 92nd).

Southwestern found their leader in underclassman Olivia Simpson, who scored 21 points along with nine rebounds and four steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Simpson has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Riley Scroggins, who scored 12 points along with five assists and five rebounds.

Despite the loss, Jac-Cen-Del still got an impressive performance from Julia Meyer, who scored 18 points along with eight rebounds and two blocks. Meyer's trending in the right direction, as she's improved his point production for three games straight. Reagan Hughes was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with two steals.

Southwestern's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-10. As for Jac-Cen-Del, their loss ended a seven-game streak of away wins and brought them to 18-5.

Southwestern will face off against Brownstown Central at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Jac-Cen-Del does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
