Baseball Recap: IMG Academy Navy Wins Going Away Against Sarasota Military Academy

IMG Academy Navy won the last time they faced Sarasota Military Academy and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Ascenders blew past the Eagles 7-1. The Ascenders might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven games by six runs or more this season.

Jeffrey Nepa made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out seven over 4.1 innings pitched. Those seven strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4.

In other batting news, IMG Academy Navy let Eduardo Abuchaibe Florez and Joonho Song run wild. Abuchaibe Florez went 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI, while Song scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-3. Song is becoming a predictor of IMG Academy Navy's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is undefeated (and 7-9 when he doesn't). Grayson Veenendall also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

IMG Academy Navy's victory bumped their record up to 12-9. As for Sarasota Military Academy, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-13.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. IMG Academy Navy will head out to challenge Countryside at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Cougars will roll in looking for their sixth straight win, something the Ascenders surely won't give up without a fight. As for Sarasota Military Academy, they are taking a road trip to face off against Non Varsity Opponent at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
